The Lindenwood women's lacrosse team (10-6, 3-3 ASUN) fell in the ASUN semifinals to Liberty (11-7, 5-1 ASU) by a score of 17-12 on Thursday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood got the scoring started less than a minute in when
Reese Krieger found the back of the net, putting the Lions ahead 1-0.
Isabella Rulapaugh doubled the lead a few minutes later, before Liberty got the next two to tie the game at 2-2 midway through the first.
The Flames grabbed their first lead of the day at the 6:54 mark, but it didn't last long as
Luci Selander tied the game up at three with just over five minutes to go in the quarter. Lindenwood regained the lead after breaking Liberty pressure and Rulapaugh netted her second of the day, giving the Lions a 4-3 lead. The Flames scored one before the end of the quarter, making the score 4-4 after one.
Aislinn Sweeney was strong in net, making six saves.
The Lions opened the second quarter scoring three quick goals with Selander scoring twice and Krieger getting the other, giving Lindenwood a 7-4 advantage. Liberty answered back with the next three to knot the game at seven apiece. The two teams continued to go back and forth trading goals, first it was
Ryleigh Cavanaugh, assisted by Rulapaugh, putting the Lions in front by one before Liberty tied it up a few seconds later.
Alissa DiGiacinto propelled Lindenwood back in front with a goal late in the half and the Lions took a 9-8 lead into halftime.
Liberty scored the first three goals of the second half to take an 11-9 lead, before Krieger put an end to the run with just under seven minutes to go in the quarter. The Flames netted the final two goals of the frame and held a 13-10 advantage after three.
In the fourth, the Flames scored first and added one a few minutes later to go up 15-10. Selander scored her fourth of the day at the 7:45 mark of the period, getting the Lions within four at 15-11. After two more goals from Liberty, Krieger found the back of the net for the fourth time, making the score 17-12. The Lions were unable to draw any closer and fell by that score.
