Baseball's Post-Season Run Ends In Marion, Ill.

Lions ended their season with their most wins (30) and OVC wins (14) in their Division I era

MARION, Ill. - Lindenwood baseball (30-30) ended their historic season in Marion, Ill. with a 3-1 loss in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship semifinals against #1 Eastern Illinois on Friday evening. The Lions made strides this season winning their most games (30) and conference games (14) since joining the OVC and won 30 games for just the fourth time since 2012. LU also won their first OVC Championships game in program history earlier this week.

Starting pitcher Buschschulte went 3.1 innings for the Lions allowing two runs (one earned) one three hits while striking out one. The Panthers scored their first run off the the right-hander on a sac fly to right field putting them ahead 1-0 in the second inning.

After nine-straight outs by the Lions at the plate, the Panthers scored again in the bottom of the third. After a single and walk were allowed, the Lions had a chance to turn a double play but a throwing error brought the second run around putting EIU ahead 2-0.

EIU tacked on their final run of the ball game in the fifth after a sac bunt scored the third run. Lindenwood's pitching kept the Panthers in check holding them to three runs on five hits. All-OVC Second Team selection Bennett Stice came in relief of Buschschulte throwing the final 4.2 innings allowing just one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

The Panther's starting pitcher Bryce Riggs had a career-day throwing a two-hit complete game while taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Riggs also struck out 10 Lions. Sarota had LU's first hit in the eighth with a groundball hit into the hole at short resulting in a difficult throw to first.

Simpson created a spark in the ninth for the Lions with a lead-off pinch hit double to give Lindenwood life. After advancing the third on a wild pitch, Edwards groundout out to second scoring the lone Lindenwood run. The game would end on a fly out by Charlie Isom-McCall at first base ending the Lions' season.

Lindenwood ended their 2025 season with a 30-30 record becoming just the fourth team in the OVC this season to reach 30 wins. #8 Little Rock will battle #1 Eastern Illinois for the OVC Championship game on Saturday, May 24th at 12:00 p.m. CT.
