Lindenwood Approved For Full Division I Membership Beginning This Fall

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Following a vote by the NCAA Division I Board of Directors, Lindenwood University was officially notified late Monday that it had officially completed the reclassification process, making the University a full member of the NCAA.

"We approached the NCAA reclassification process with great intention and care, understanding that achieving full Division I status would not only elevate the experience of our current student-athletes but also instill a deep sense of pride across our campus, among our alumni, supporters, and the entire St. Charles community," said VP of Intercollegiate Athletics Jason Coomer. "With full eligibility for NCAA postseason play, our focus now shifts to winning championships and raising banners that will define this new era."

With the approval, Lindenwood will be elevated to full Division I membership status effective August 1, 2025, one year earlier than the previous process track. With full Division I member status, the Lions are eligible for NCAA-sponsored postseason events, among other benefits to the institution.

"We commend Lindenwood for the vision, determination, and hard work they have demonstrated over the past three years in completing the reclassification process to NCAA Division I," said Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner Beth DeBauche. "They have shown a commitment to excellence on and off the field, and we are excited to see them eligible to compete in NCAA postseason events. We look forward to what the future holds for their student-athletes, coaches, and community.

In January, Lindenwood notified the NCAA of its intent to engage in the expedited process to exit the reclassification phase one year early thus allowing for all teams to be fully eligible for NCAA Championships during the 2025-26 academic year. In order to engage in the expedited process, Lindenwood had to meet the enhanced criteria that was adopted as a condition of the reduced timeline.

"Achieving full NCAA Division I status marks a historic milestone for Lindenwood University," said Lindenwood University President Dr. John Porter. "This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and entire campus. Competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics will continue to elevate our university's profile and foster pride within the community. We are proud of what this means for our university and excited for the future of Lindenwood Athletics."

Reclassifying schools were required to participate in an academic review, satisfy all Division I core guarantees and attestation requirements, complete an NCAA self-study program and meet new financial aid requirements, such as a scholarship offering that exceeds the 10th percentile of active Division I members.

"Lindenwood now joins a very small group of universities to complete the NCAA reclassification process a full year ahead of schedule," stated Coomer. "This unprecedented achievement is a powerful testament to our university's readiness to compete and thrive at the highest level of collegiate athletics."

Lindenwood has already shown remarkable success while competing in the Ohio Valley Conference over the last three years. In the Fall of 2024, Lindenwood won its first two OVC Tournament Championships with the women's soccer and women's volleyball programs claiming the title.

"After winning the OVC Championship last season, this opportunity means everything — not just for me, but for our entire program," said Autum Bax of the 2024 OVC Champion women's volleyball team "Lindenwood has been building something bigger than itself for years, but now they can finally put it to the test on the biggest stage. Now we finally get the chance to compete in the NCAA Tournament, and that's a a huge moment we've all been working toward."

"This accomplishment is the result of a campus-wide effort, with countless individuals working behind the scenes to help us reach this remarkable moment," finished Coomer. Today is a celebration of their dedication, vision, and belief in what Lindenwood can achieve."
