Women's Volleyball Storm Back For 3-2 Win Over Virginia Tech

WILMINGTON, NC – History was made on the coastal plain of North Carolina on Saturday, as the Lindenwood women's volleyball team (3-0, 0-0 OVC) defeated Virginia Tech (2-1, 0-0 ACC) by a score of 3-2 for the program's first ever win over a Power 4 opponent. The Lions had to overcome a 0-2 deficit to clinch the historic victory.

Game Overview
After dropping the opening two sets by a combined 15 points, the Lions led for nearly the entire third frame after taking an early 4-3 lead. The Lions outblocked the Hokies 4.0 to 2.0 in the frame after having four less blocks than VT through sets one and two.

Lindenwood used the momentum they captured in the third set to propel themselves to another win in a 33-31 marathon in set four. The Lions denied four Hokie set point opportunities to extend the match, with Ashley Geluck recording eight kills and a pair of block assists in the frame.

The fifth set was all Lions, with LU pouncing out to an early 5-1 lead that they never relinquished to complete the reverse sweep and finish the opening weekend 3-0.

Lindenwood had four players in double digit kills, led by Jade Roth with 14. She was followed by Autumn Bax (13), Ashley Geluck (12), and Shannon Monahan (10).

Roth and Geluck tied for the team lead in points (16.0), with Roth adding three blocks (1BS – 2BA) to her day while Geluck posted a team high five rejections (1BS – 4BA).
