CORALVILLE, Iowa – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (4-4, 0-0 OVC) fell 3-0 against Iowa (9-3, 0-0 Big Ten) in their non-conference finale on Sunday afternoon. Despite some good runs, the Lions were unable to find the consistency needed to put pressure on the Hawkeyes, who finished the match with a blistering .351 hitting percentage.
Game Overview
Lindenwood scored first in each of the first two sets but were unable to hold onto the lead for long in either frame, as Iowa used big scoring runs to establish commanding leads early on. The Lions trailed by as many as seven points in the opening set before stringing together an 8-4 scoring run to pull within three points, but it was too little too late as the Hawkeyes took the frame 25-21.
In set two, Iowa separated with eight unanswered points on their way to a 25-11 set victory. Lindenwood never led in the third set, but after falling behind by seven were able to use runs of 4-0 and 5-0 to make the score 21-22 before Iowa scored three straight to end the rally and match.
Autumn Bax led the Lions with eight kills and two block assists for a total of 9.0 points. She was followed by
Jade Roth with six kills on a .333 hitting percentage and four block assists for a total of 8.0 points.
Dana Grib led Lindenwood with 13 digs in what was her seventh double-digit dig outing of the season.
Quotable
"We had some good moments. We made a couple of runs. We just could not maintain pressure on them. We struggled to do some of the easy things with any consistency. We were consistently predictable and that made things harder on our side", said Lions head coach
Will Condon. "I think we are learning a little more of what we will need to do to win more matches."
