ST. CHARLES, Mo.- Lindenwood Men's Volleyball (4-1, 0-0 MIVA) picked up their fourth win in a row on Wednesday night inside of Hyland Arena, sweeping Quincy University in three sets to improve to 4-1 on the season. The #19 ranked Lions were led by
Owen Walsh and
Luke Kraft who each recorded eight kills in the match against the Hawks, while
Caden Whiteside added seven kills. Lindenwood also recorded a season-high 12 service aces in the contest as Kraft and
Zach Solomon each added four service aces to their season totals.
In the opening set, Quincy made an early 5-1 run to take a 6-4 lead.
Luke Kraft ended the Hawks run by registering his first kill and service ace of the match to tie the set at six. The two sides would trade points for awhile as the score remained tied at 13-13 just halfway through. The Lions would finally break open the set going on a 5-1 run of their own behind kills from
Amir Grant and
Brendan Louthain to take a 17-13 lead. Quincy cut the deficit to two at 18-16, but Lindenwood closed out the set with two more kills from Grant and Kraft as the Lions won the opener 25-21. In set two, the Lions opened with a 7-2 lead thanks to two kills and a service ace from
Owen Walsh. Lindenwood went on a 9-1 run later in the set with
Zach Solomon and Walsh recording two kills apiece and Louthain adding a service ace to highlight the run as LU took the second set in dominating fashion by a score of 25-12.
In the third set, Lindenwood once again opened with a lead by a score of 6-2.
Caden Whiteside finished off the early run with a kill but Quincy responded with a run of their own to cut the Lion lead down to one at 7-6. LU responded with a 12-4 run behind Louthain and Solomon's service aces and the defense recording a huge block early on in the run to build momentum for the rest of the set as the Lions went on to win the final set by a score of 25-17 and picked up their second straight sweep.
As a team, Lindenwood hit .400 for the match and had 37 assists on 40 kills. Defensively, Walsh and Whiteside each had 1.5 total blocks as the Lions had 5.5 total blocks in the match. The Lions will be back in Hyland Arena next Friday night on January 30 as they will host Rockhurst University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
