Jones Leads Women's Basketball Past Tennessee Tech on Thursday

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (14-6, 6-3 OVC) picked up a 66-55 win over Tennessee Tech (10-8, 3-6 OVC) on Thursday night behind 32 points from Aleshia Jones.

GAME OVERVIEW
The game began with runs by both teams as Lindenwood scored the first six points. However, Tech responded with the next 11 to grab a five-point lead. The Golden Eagles held a 15-13 lead after one. Brooke Coffey had seven points across the first 10 minutes.

Tennessee Tech took its largest lead of the game early in the second quarter at 20-13, which forced a Lindenwood timeout. Coming out of the break, Aleshia Jones scores the next 12 points of the game to put the Lions ahead 25-22 with just under four minutes to go in the quarter. The Black and Gold remained in front as Jones continued her strong second period with a three just before half. The Lions led 32-26 at the break with Jones leading the way with 15, followed by Coffey with 11. Lindenwood forced 12 Tech turnovers in the first half that led to 17 points.

The Lions extended the lead to 36-29 after a jumper by Ellie Brueggemann with 6:41 to go in the third. The Golden Eagles finished the quarter on a strong note and were able to tie the game at 40 apiece heading into the fourth.

After Tech opened the scoring with a bucket to take the lead, Coffey responded with a three to put the Lions back in front. Midway through the quarter, Jones hit a big three to grow the lead to five at 51-46. One possession later, she hit another one and the Lions never looked back, sealing the game from the free throw line, which included makes from Gracie Kelsey who went 6-6. Overall, the Lions went 20-21 from the charity strips and went on to win 66-55. Jones finished the game with a season-high 32.
