On Tuesday, the Ohio Valley Conference announced its weekly women's basketball awards. Lindenwood's
Brooke Coffey and
Aleshia Jones were featured as Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively. Coffey has now won Player of the Week two times in a row, while Jones was tabbed Newcomer for the fourth time this season.
Coffey averaged 20 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game last week. She began the week grabbing her sixth double-double of the season in a win over Tennessee Tech, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The St. Charles, Mo. native led the way in a big win over Tennessee State last Saturday with 24 points and six rebounds, her third 20-point game of the season. For the week, Coffey shot 59 percent from the field, 56 percent from three, and 75 percent from the charity stripe.
So far this season, Coffey leads the OVC in field goal percentage at 55.6 and ranks fifth in rebounding, pulling down an average of 7.8 per game.
Jones was tabbed Newcomer of the Week for the second-consecutive week after averaging 27 points, seven rebounds, and two steals per contest. She shot 51 percent from the field, 64 percent from three-point range, and 84 percent from the line.
Jones had one of her best games of the season against Tennessee Tech, going for a season-high 32 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. The Leavenworth, Kan. native also made five shots from beyond the arc.
Against Tennessee State, Jones finished with 22 points, 16 of which came in the second half. She also pulled down seven rebounds and had two assists. So far this season, Jones is averaging a team-leading 15.2 points per game and ranks second in the OVC in field goal percentage, coming in just behind Coffey at 51.9 percent.
Coffey, Jones, and the rest of the Lions will be back in action on Thursday taking on Southern Indiana at 5:00 p.m. in Evansville, Ind.
