Coffey Records Double Double in Loss For Women's Basketball

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (16-7, 8-4 OVC) fell on the road to Morehead State (14-9, 9-3 OVC), 69-63 on Saturday afternoon.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood jumped out to a 5-0 lead after a three from Ellie Brueggemann. However, the offense slowed and Morehead State went on a 13-2 run to go up six with just over a minute to go in the quarter. The Lions trailed by four, 13-9 after 10 minutes.

The Lions tied the game at 16 with a three from Aleshia Jones and a few possessions later another shot from beyond the arc went down for Brueggemann, knotting the game at 21. With just over two minutes to go in the half, Morehead took a 29-26 lead, but the Lions scored the final six points, capped off by a Gracie Kelsey layup, giving Lindenwood a 32-29 advantage at the break. Brueggemann led the way with 10 points, followed by Jones with nine.

The two teams traded buckets during the first five minutes of the third quarter. Threes by Brooke Coffey but the Lions up 39-38 and 42-40. However, the Eagles finished the quarter on a strong note and led 50-46 after 30 minutes of play. 

In the fourth, Lindenwood tied the game at 53 apiece with another three from Brueggemann with 7:49 to go. Morehead State held the Lions scoreless for the next two minutes and went up five, 60-55 with just over five minutes remaining. The Black and Gold settled back down and knotted the game at 60 after Brueggemann drilled another shot from beyond the arc. A few possessions later, Mya Skoff got a layup in transition plus the foul to give the Lions a three-point lead, 63-60 with 2:47 remaining. However, Morehead State finished the game on a 9-0 run to earn a 69-63 win on Saturday.
