Football Comes Up Short Against SEMO on Saturday

The Lindenwood football team (1-4, 1-1 OVC) fell in the GameBall Brawl to SEMO (3-3, 1-0 OVC) by a score of 38-27 on Saturday afternoon from Steward Field at Hunter Stadium

GAME OVERVIEW
Both teams opened the game with a three and out as the defense held firm early. Following another SEMO punt, Lindenwood got the ground game going. Coming out of a timeout, Pops Battle kept the ball on a quarterback read scoring from 50 yards out to put the Lions up 7-0 with 4:15 to play in the first. The Redhawks answered on their next drive, tying the game at seven apiece after one.

Lindenwood capped off a six-play 80 yard drive to begin the second quarter with a 43-yard touchdown run from Jared Rhodes, putting the Lions up 14-7. SEMO answered right back with a score of their own, tying the game at 14 with 12:40 to play. Each defense settled in and got a few stops. With under four minutes left in the half, Lindenwood was looking for the go-ahead score, but missed a field goal, keeping the game tied. The Redhawks took the lead on its next possession and held a 21-14 advantage out of the break.

Following a pair of three and outs by each team, SEMO put a drive together and looked to be going up by two scores. After multiple stops near the goal line, a bad snap got away from the SEMO running back which was picked up by Brayon Crawford and returned for a touchdown, tying the game at 21 midway through the third. However, SEMO responded back and took a 28-21 lead into the fourth.

The Redhawks would go up 35-21 with an early touchdown in the fourth, while adding a field goal to extend the lead to 38-21 with just under eight minutes to play. Lindenwood continued to rely on the ground game as Steve Hall found the endzone cutting the deficit to 38-27 with just over five minutes to play. That would be as close as they would get, however, falling by that score on Saturday afternoon.
