Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls At Southern Indiana On Sunday Afternoon

The Lindenwood Men's Soccer team (6-3-6, 3-1-3 OVC) suffered their first conference loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 at Southern Indiana. The Lions finished with 10 shots, including five on goal, but all five attempts were turned away by the Screaming Eagles' goalkeeper.

In the first half, Lindenwood created their first scoring opportunity after earning a corner kick in the 13th minute. On the ensuing set piece, Clement Baron got his head on the ball, but his attempt sailed just wide of the left post as the score remained 0-0. Later in the half, Southern Indiana earned their second corner kick of the half and capitalized in the 21st minute, finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.

In the 39th minute, Philip Viberg Rasmussen put a shot on target for the Lions, but the USI goalkeeper made the save to keep LU off the scoreboard and the first half ended with Lindenwood trailing 1-0. Both teams recorded three shots in the opening 45 minutes, while each goalkeeper making one save.

In the second half, the Lions recorded their first shot on goal in the 65th minute after earning a free kick from just outside the box. Baron got his head on the ensuing attempt, but the USI goalkeeper made another save to keep the Lindenwood deficit at one. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Ivan Rodriguez and Ryan Holmes each had opportunities to even the score, but both attempts were denied as Lindenwood came up just short in Evansville.

The Lions outshot the Screaming Eagles 10-5 in the match, with Baron leading the way with three shots. However, Southern Indiana's first half goal proved to be the difference.

Lindenwood will host Eastern Illinois on Friday for their final home game of the regular season. Kickoff from Steward Field at Hunter Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
