Men's Hockey Drops Game One against Omaha

Strong first period by the Lions not enough in 7-4 loss

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (3-4-0) fell to Omaha (1-2-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) by a score of 7-4 at Centene Community Ice Center on Friday night. After the Lions tied the game just under two minutes into the third period, the Mavericks reeled off four unanswered goals to pull away.

Lindenwood came out of the gates strong to take a 2-0 lead in the first period behind goals from Ty Nash and Noah Dziver, but after Omaha cut the lead in half with a Parker Berge goal just over a minute before the first intermission, the Mavericks tied the game with a Marcus Broberg power play conversion seven minutes into the second period before a Maxime Pellerin score with 14 second remaining the frame put them in front.

Lindenwood regrouped and tied the game at the 1:50 mark of the third period with Adam Raesler stuffing a second chance into the back of the net after Brady McIsaac had fired toward the crease. However, goals by Pellerin and Marcus Nguyen only 49 seconds apart put Lindenwood behind by a pair with 15 minutes remaining.

The Lions went on the power play at the 6:23 mark but committed a penalty of their own just 28 seconds later before a second infraction at 7:59 put Lindenwood on the penalty kill, and Omaha would take advantage of the four on three chance with a Marc Lajoie goal to make the score 6-3.

The Mavericks would add one more score with a shorthanded goal by Myles Hilman on Lindenwood's final power play of the game before Andrew LeBlanc made it three goals in two games with a score in the final minutes assisted by Jake Delaney and Chase LaPinta.
