ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's soccer team (8-6-2, 4-2-0 OVC) earned a pivotal 2-1 win over SIUE (5-4-1, 3-2-1 OVC) at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Lions move into a tie for first place in the OVC standings entering the final week of the regular season.
Lindenwood was forced to overcome an early deficit after Tori Bockstadter put the Cougars ahead just 54 seconds into the match with a screamer from 25 yards out that evaded the fully extended arms of a diving
Lauren Hale to find the back of the net.
The Lions would find the equalizer in the 32
nd minute, with
Kaylee Conoyer taking advantage of some chaos in front of the SIUE net following a corner kick to sneak the ball inside post for her second goal of the season.
Just over 90 seconds later, the match took another turn with SIUE's goalkeeper being sent off for denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity following a video review, giving Lindenwood a numbers advantage for the remainder of the match.
With the score still tied in the 69
th minute,
Allison Schrumpf lofted a long pass into the box that fell to an unmarked
Sam Steele, who delivered the game-winner with a composed finish into the lower middle part of the net.Â
