MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (1-1-0) picked up their first win of the 2026-27 season on Saturday evening, defeating Arizona State (1-1-0) by a score of 9-6 at Centene Community Ice Center.
Lindenwood pounced out to an early lead with three goals in the game's first five minutes, including two by
Brady McIsaac at 2:11 and 4:49. Between McIsaac's goals,
Chase LaPinta lit the lamp for the first time in his Lindenwood career with a goal at the 3:25 mark.
as the momentum would take a dramatic swing toward the Sun Devils with goals by Benjamin Kevan at 7:37 and Daniel Shlaine at 10:33 before Nathan Behm touched twine at the 15:41 mark to tie the game. Six minutes into the second period, Daniel Schlaine would give Arizona State the lead with their fourth unanswered goal.
However, the Lions would explode with their own run of four unanswered goals – all in the final six minutes of the second period – beginning with a
Jake LeBlanc slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that found the back of the net and tied the game.
Just over three minutes later,
Adam Raesler followed a shot by Jacob Delaney to stuff the puck home for a go-ahead score before
Anselmo Rego scored back-to-back goals in the frame's final minute – one from close range and one from the boards – to make the score 7-4 in favor of Lindenwood at the second intermission.
The Sun Devils quickly tightened the game with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the third period, with Behm registering his second score of the night 70 seconds into the frame before Jonas Woo cut the LU lead to just one with 15:03 remaining in the game.
However, the Lindenwood defense tightened up and kept the lead intact for the remainder of the period, and trailing by a goal with less than minute remaining, Arizona State emptied their net to put an extra skater on the ice, allowing
Caden Brown to loft a puck on target from the ASU offensive zone for an unassisted empty netter.
Arizona State would take their goalie off again shortly after, leading to a
Ty Nash empty net goal against his former team to put an exclamation point on the big night for Lindenwood.
