The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team (4-4-0, 1-3 AHA) fell to Mercyhurst by a score of 4-0 in the series finale at home on Friday afternoon. The Lakers scored three goals in the third period after holding a one-goal lead for the majority of the first two periods.
Mercyhurst opened the scoring at the 13:15 mark of the first period with a power play goal from Mariia Polozkova. Following the goal, Silje Gundersen, Raquel McCormack, Tiril Arntzen, and Tatiana Blichova each recorded a shot on goal, but former Lion Lexington Secreto turned aside all four attempts to keep the Lakers ahead 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Lindenwood earned a power play opportunity midway through the frame and had a chance to even the score, but managed just one shot on goal coming off the stick of Blichova. Ebba Ridderstolpe stopped all 14 shots she faced in the period to keep the Lions within one goal heading into the final frame. The Lakers struck twice in less than two minutes to open the third period, extending their lead to 3-0 with just over 15 minutes remaining.
Lindenwood generated several scoring opportunities down the stretch, recording 11 shots on goal in the final 15 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net as the Lions fell to 4-4-0 on the 2026-27 season.
"It was definitely not the way we wanted to finish the series, but I was proud of the way that the team fought at the end." said Head Coach Max Gavin. "There was some small wins that we took from this weekend that we can build off of."
Lindenwood will travel to No. 4 Penn State next weekend for its next Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) series. Puck drop in University Park, Pennsylvania, is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on Friday, October 16, followed by an 11 a.m. CT start on Saturday, October 17.
