ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood Men's Basketball team (16-11,10-6 OVC) fell by a final score of 73-61 to SEMO on Saturday afternoon inside Hyland Arena.
Anias Futrell and
Milos Nenadic each scored 20 or more points in the contest with the Redhawks, but it wasn't enough to overcome SEMO's 47 second half points.
In the opening half, the largest lead was five in favor of the Redhawks by a score of 12-7. Trailing by five early, the Lions responded with a 6-0 run behind four points from
Milos Nenadic and two points from
Anias Futrell to grab a 13-12 lead with 12:14 left in the first half. The rest of the half saw multiple lead changes as both teams traded baskets and free throws, but the Lions were able to end the half on a 9-3 run behind a Nenadic three pointer and free throws from Futrell and
Clayton Jackson to take a 29-26 lead into the locker room. The Lindenwood defense held SEMO to 26.92% from the floor in the opening half, but the Redhawks were able to keep it close as they shot 17 free throws in the first half and made 11 of them.
To start the second half, both teams once again kept trading baskets as the score was even at 42 with 13:25 to go in the game. SEMO went on the half's first run to open up a four point lead at 46-42, but
Robert Lewis and
Jadis Jones scored back-to-back baskets after
Anias Futrell converted on a pair of free throws to give the Lions the lead right back at 48-47 with just under 12 minutes to go. Following the under eight media timeout and Lindenwood trailing by one, the Redhawks opened up their largest lead of the game at the time by a score of 62-54 by using a 7-0 run out of the timeout to distance themselves from the Lions. Jones knocked down a free throw a few minutes later to cut the SEMO lead to five at 62-57, but SEMO extended their lead to 10 in less than a minute of game time and held on to their lead to take the game by a final score of 73-61. SEMO shot 56% from the field in the second half and was able to limit Lindenwood to 35.29% from the floor over the last 20 minutes of play.
Lindenwood will look to regroup next week as they will travel to Tennessee for OVC contests with Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech next Thursday and Saturday.
