Softball Wraps Up Samford Tournament With A Split

BIRMINGHAM, AL.- The Lindenwood Softball team (5-3, 0-0 OVC) wrapped up their second tournament of the season on Saturday with a win over Belmont and falling in their second game to Samford to finish the Samford tournament 2-2 overall. Emily Geary, Madisen Noll, and Anna Sanders all homered for the Lions today, while Sanders led the team with four RBI and Geary adding three more RBI to her season total.

GAME 1: Lindenwood 6, Belmont 2

After not recording a hit through the first three innings of play, Lindenwood picked up three hits in the top of the fourth inning with Teryn Brown capping off the inning by driving in Kylee Crowder for the first run of the game and giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. Belmont responded by putting up two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to grab a 2-1 lead, but LU took the lead back for good in the top of the fifth thanks to Emily Geary's three run home run to right field to put the Lions in front 4-2. In the top of the sixth, Madison Adams added an RBI on a SAC fly to make it a 5-2 game, and Madisen Noll hit a solo home run to left field on the next at bat to make it 6-2 game. Samantha Roulanaitis entered the contest in the bottom of the fifth and shut down the Bruin offense for the rest of the game behind three strikeouts over the final three innings of the contest to pick up her second win of the season and helped the Lions improve to 5-2 on the young season.

GAME 2: Lindenwood 6, Samford 9

The Lions trailed 2-0 after two innings of play but were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third behind a Kylee Crowder SAC fly to centerfield to make it a 2-1 game. The Lions would put up a five spot in the top of the fifth inning behind an Anna Sanders grand slam to make it a 6-2 game, but Samford matched Lindenwood's five runs in the bottom of the fifth behind a solo and two run home run to take a 7-6 lead with two innings to go. The Bulldogs added on to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to win by a score of 9-6. Sanders went 3-4 to lead Lindenwood offensively, and drove in four of the team's six RBI for the game.
