The Lindenwood women's basketball team (20-7, 12-4 OVC) brings a four-game winning streak into a matchup with Tennessee State (4-21, 3-13 OVC) on Thursday. Tip-off from Gentry Arena is set for 5:00 p.m.
Â
The Lions are coming off a 78-67 win over SEMO last time out. With the victory, Lindenwood secured back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2017-18 and 2018-19. It is just the fourth 20-win season in the Lions' NCAA Era.
Â
Lindenwood had four players in double figures led by
Aleshia Jones who had 22 points, including 13 in the second half. The Leavenworth, Kan. native stuffed the stat sheet, grabbing seven rebounds, and adding five steals. This is the seventh game this season with at least five steals for Jones who is six thefts away from setting the single season program record.
Â
All seven of Jones' rebounds were on the offensive glass. Overall, the Lions had 14 offensive boards, their second-highest total of the season. The work on the glass led to 16 second chance points.
Â
Brooke Coffey compiled her eighth double double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The 13 boards tied a season and career-high for the junior guard who shot 6-of-9 from the field and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Â
The Black and Gold have been getting to the free throw line at a high rate as of late, generating 18 or more attempts in three out of the last four games. They have been converting their changes when they get there, knocking down 59-of-67, good for 88 percent from the line.
Â
Mya Skoff and
Ellie Brueggemann were the other Lions in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. For Skoff, it was her fourth consecutive game with 10 or more points after having done it just six times prior to this stretch. All 13 of her points came in the first half of the game.
Â
