Softball Falls To Longwood In Final Game Of Florida Tournament

GAINESVILLE, FL. - The Lindenwood Softball team fell on Sunday morning in their final game of the Florida Tournament by a final score of 8-6. Izzy Wilcox picked up right where she left off yesterday by going 2-4 at the plate with a double and a triple and knocking in two RBI, while Kylee Crowder and Dallis Darnell each added another RBI to their season total as well.

The Lions wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning, erupting for four runs to take an early 4–0 lead. Crowder ignited the rally with a single through the left side, driving in the game's first run. A wild pitch later allowed Karter Skillman to score and moved Crowder to third. Moments later, Crowder stole home to extend the lead to 3–0 as the Lions seized control early. Izzy Wilcox would then drive in the final run of the inning on an RBI double to left center to make it 4-0 after the top of the first. Longwood responded in the bottom of the second inning by putting up three runs after they loaded the bases, but the Lions roared right back and put up two more runs in the top of the third behind a Wilcox RBI triple and a Dallis Darnell RBI single to right field to push the Lindenwood lead to 6-3 after 2.5 innings played.

The Lancers responded once more in the bottom of the fourth by putting up five runs in the inning behind a grand slam to put Longwood in front 8-6. The Lions would get runners on first base in the sixth and seventh innings with a Madisen Noll single and an Anna Sanders walk, but couldn't get into scoring position over the final two frames as the Lancers hung on to win 8-6.

Lindenwood will return to action next weekend for their home opener on Friday, February 27 as they will host the Lindenwood Invite at Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lions will start the Invite hosting Indiana State on Friday at 3 p.m CT followed by Valparaiso at 5:30 p.m. CT.
