The Lindenwood lacrosse team (4-7, 1-2 ASUN) edged Kennesaw State (6-5, 1-1 ASUN) by a score of 10-9 on Wednesday night in Kennesaw, Ga.
GAME OVERVIEW
Both teams traded goals early with the Lindenwood score coming from
Luci Selander at the 10:17 mark of the frame. The Owls scored the next two before Selander found the back of the net again, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Lindenwood had some good chances near the end of the quarter, but couldn't find the tying goal and trailed by one after 15 minutes.
Kennesaw State got the scoring started in the second, before Resse Krieger answered back a few minutes later, making the score 4-3. The Owls went up by two and thought they had extended the lead to three but the goal was called back due to a crease violation. Selander capped off the hat trick off a feed from
Alissa DiGiacinto, closing the gap to 5-4, which would be the score at the break.
Taylor Coughlin was strong in net with seven saves.
Neither team could find a goal until the 6:57 mark of the third when
Claire Blue tied the game, 5-5 assisted by
Charlize Vang. The Lions took the lead a few minutes later as DiGiacinto scooped up a loose ball and found the back of the net putting the Black and Gold in front, 6-5. Lindenwood grew the lead to 7-5 when
Olivia Godbout found
Annie Wille in front of the net. KSU got back within one just before the end of the quarter and Lindenwood led 7-6 after three.
Lindenwood took advantage of a man-up opportunity to begin the fourth. Selander connected with Vang who put the Lions up 8-6. A few minutes later, Coughlin made a big save on a free position attempt, but KSU did eventually break through making the score 8-7 with 10:10 to play. The Owls tied the game before Vang put the Lions back in front 9-8 at the 6:36 mark of the quarter. The Black and Gold went up by two, 10-8 thanks to
Reese Krieger late in the fourth.
Kennesaw State wouldn't go away and got back within one with a quick goal as 1:38 remained on the clock. The Lions won the ensuing draw control, which was scooped up by Selander. Lindenwood was able to run out the clock and pick up the 10-9 win.
