Men's Volleyball Sweeps Northern Kentucky On Saturday To Improve To 6-1 In the MIVA

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Lindenwood Men's Volleyball team (14-2, 6-1 MIVA) swept Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon on the road by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 26-24. Owen Walsh and Luke Kraft led the Lions offensively with 10 or more kills each as Walsh had a match high 11 kills on a .625 hitting percentage, while Kraft had 10 kills on a hitting percentage of .412. As a team, the Lions hit .434, which was their second highest in a match this season. 

In the opening set, Lindenwood started on an 11-5 run behind kills from Caden Whiteside, Amir Grant, Luke Kraft, Brendan Louthain, and Owen Walsh. Kraft and Louthain added another kill a few points later as the Lions opened up a 14-8 lead halfway through set one. Later on, Louthain and Whiteside both added another kill to open up a 19-10 lead and the Lions would cruise to 25-16 win in set one. LU hit .647 as a team in the first set compared to NKU's -0.056. In set two, the Norse jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Lions responded with a 7-2 run behind kills from Whiteside and Walsh while Kraft and Whiteside added a service ace to put Lindenwood in front 8-5. Later in the set with the Lions in front 19-16, Lindenwood closed out the set on a 6-2 run behind three kills from Walsh to take the second set by a score of 25-18. 

In the final set, NKU led for most of the set until halfway through. With the Norse up 16-12, Lindenwood used two kills from Kraft and one kill from Walsh to cut the NKU lead down to one at 17-16. Louthain would then record the next two kills for the Lions with his second kill tying the set at 21. Similar to set two, the Lions closed out the set on a 4-1 run to take the final set by a score of 26-24 behind two kills from Walsh and one kill and a service ace from Whiteside to complete the sweep over Northern Kentucky. 

Lindenwood has now won five straight matches and will return to action on Wednesday night at home as they will play host to Belmont Abbey College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT.
