Men's Volleyball Falls In MIVA Quarterfinal Round To Lewis

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Lindenwood Men's Volleyball team (20-7, 11-5 MIVA) saw their season come to an abrupt end on Saturday night, falling by a score of 3-0 to Lewis in the MIVA Tournament Quarterfinal Round. The Lions were led offensively by Owen Walsh who had nine kills on a hitting percentage of .667, but as a team, Lindenwood was held to a hitting percentage of .141 for the match and was never able to get into a rhythm offensively.

In the first set, Lewis hit .304 and recorded 5.5 total blocks. The Flyers jumped out to a 14-6 lead to open the set and never looked back in the opener. The Lions clawed their way back into the set for a brief moment by cutting the deficit to five at 23-18 after Walsh added his third kill of the set, but the Flyers big run to start the set was too much for the Lions to overcome as Lewis took the first set by a score of 25-20. In set two, the Flyers once again opened up a 14-6 lead, and eventually extended their lead to 21-12 late in the set. Amir Grant and Brendan Louthain each had two kills in the second frame, but Lewis went up by two sets to none by taking the set 25-16 behind a .478 hitting percentage and 3.5 more blocks.

In the third set, both squads went back and forth to start the set with the largest lead  being five at 24-19 in favor of Lewis. Lindenwood hit .321 in the third set, which was their best hitting percentage among the three sets played tonight, and were led by Walsh and Caden Whiteside, who combined for nine of the team's 12 kills in the final frame. The Lions also had three blocks in the third set and cut Lewis's lead down to 24-22 late in the set behind back-to-back blocks from Grant, but the Flyers would end the match with a kill to complete the sweep over LU with a 25-22 set three win.

Despite the loss, the Lions set several Lindenwood NCAA Era records including most wins in a single season (20), and most MIVA wins in a single season (11). Zach Solomon also added his name to the record books by finishing the 2026 season with 54 service aces, which is the most by a single player in the NCAA era. Additionally, Lindenwood had four players receive postseason MIVA awards in Brendan Louthain, Luke Kraft, Zach Solomon, and Caden Whiteside which was the most since 2024. As a team, the Lions had seven ranked wins in 2026 which was the most since the 2024 season as well. Lindenwood will now look to build off of a historic season in 2027.
