ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood baseball team (22-19, 8-8 OVC) came out on the short end of a classic pitcher's duel against Little Rock (26-17, 12-4 OVC) at the Lou Brock Sports Complex on Friday evening. In a game less than two hours long, the Trojans prevailed 2-0 to bring an end to the Lions eight-game win streak.
Josh Newell was tagged with the loss despite a strong eight innings of work in which he allowed just two runs with a pair of strikeouts.
Will Geary and
Sam Driscoll accounted for over half of Lindenwood's six total hits, recording two knocks apiece.
How it Happened
Little Rock created some traffic on the base path early on with a pair of singles in each of their first two at-bats, but
Josh Newell was able to work out of both innings without allowing a run before retiring the side in order in the third and fourth frames.
However, Cade Martin would put the Trojans in front with a solo home run to left field in the top of the fifth. The Lions placed runners on first and second with one out following a pair of base hits in the home half of the frame, but a 5-3 double play extinguished the scoring threat.
The Lions moved a runner into scoring position with two outs again in the bottom of the seventh but were again unable to bring any runs across and Little Rock preceded to tack on another run in the top of the eighth with Cade Martin scoring on a sacrifice fly after leading off the frame with a double.
The Lions were unable to rally through their final two at-bats, with a
Will Geary two-out single in the eighth representing their only base runner.
