The Lindenwood Men's Soccer team bounced back from Monday's loss at IU Indy with a 7-0 victory at home over Blackburn College on Wednesday night. The Lions recorded a season-high 31 shots in the contest, while six different players scored their first goal of the season in the route of the Beavers.
Lindenwood scored early on in the first half behind Freshman Forward
Omar Sanderson's first career goal. After the Black and Gold forced a turnover,
Maxime Legai took a shot from the left side of the goal box that bounced off the post and fell right into the chest of Sanderson who buried the first goal of the contest to put the Lions up 1-0 in the 8th minute of the game.
Later on in the half,
David Magalhaes extended the first half lead with a backside goal from the left side after
Clement Baron placed a perfect pass up the right side of the field that landed on the foot of
Santiago Row. Row would take a few dribbles to create some distance between him and his defender and delivered a great cross through the Beaver defense that found Magalhaes to make it a 2-0 game at the break. The Lions limited Blackburn to just one first half shot, while taking 13 of their own with six of them being on target.
In the second half of play, Lindenwood scored four more times over the course of 17 minutes to make it a 6-0 game.
Luca Bartoni scored his team leading third goal of the season at the 50th minute off an assist from
Miguel Adoboe, before
Gabriel Tonks scored two minutes later off assists from
Luke Neely and
Callum Hudson. In the 62nd minute,
Maxime Legai made it a 5-0 game after the Beaver goalkeeper knocked the ball towards the back of the net in the direction of Legai, who used his head to score his first goal of the season. Five minutes later, Magalhaes scored his second goal of the game after knocking the ball away from the goalkeeeper, and
Ryan Holmes scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute to extend the lead even further to 7-0.
For the contest, Lindenwood's defense allowed just one shot and were led offensively by several players. Magalhaes led the charge with his first two goals of the season, while Holmes, Sanderson, Tonks, and Legai found the back of the net for the first time this season as well. Both Sanderson and Holmes led the Lions with six shots each with Sanderson and Magalhaes leading the team in shots on goal with two.
"I was really pleased with a lot of the guys off the bench tonight." said Head Coach Kris Bertsch. "Some of the starters who haven't started before as well as some guys getting their first goals and assists of their career is always exciting to see."
The Lions will now hit the road for the second time this season as they will travel to Dayton, Ohio to face Wright State. Kickoff is set for Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. CT.
