The Lindenwood Men's Soccer team (3-2-2) played to a scoreless draw on Tuesday night against Tulsa to wrap up their final non-conference home game of the 2026 season. The Lions outshot the Golden Hurricane in the contest 11-8 and had plenty of scoring opportunities off set pieces, but were unable to come through.
Thato Lekgetho led Lindenwood in the first half by recording four total shots and two shots on target in a span of 14 minutes, but the Tulsa goalkeeper turned away both shots on goal to keep the game knotted at zero. Later in the half,
Luca Bartoni had a great scoring opportunity on a free kick from the top left side of the box in the 34th minute, but his shot sailed just past the right post as both squads were still searching for the first goal of the contest. The defense allowed three first half Tulsa shots with just one being on target in the 12th minute that was handled easily by
Quinn Closson, while the Lions ended the opening 45 minutes of play with eight total shots.
To start the second half, there was a lightning delay 10 minutes into the second 45 minutes of play, and the game was halted for an hour. Upon resumption of play, Lindenwood continued to put pressure on the Tulsa defense thanks to shots from
Gabriel Tonks and
Javaun Mills, but neither attempt was on target. Although the attempt from Tonks was off the mark, the 5'10 Junior was able to gather the ball from the top of the box and fired a shot that just barely missed the top left corner of the goal as the game still remained tied at zero.
The final 15 minutes of the second half saw
Quinn Closson make four saves on a couple of quality scoring chances generated by Tulsa en route to his third cleansheet of the season. His five saves overall for the contest also marked a season-high.
"Collectively, we knew we needed to put in a full 90 minutes versus a quality Tulsa program." said Head Coach
Kris Bertsch. "It was a good response from our previous match where we felt we weren't the best versions of ourselves. I am looking forward to us continuing to improve with our last non-conference match before OVC play."
The Lions will wrap up non-conference play on Sunday night when they will travel to Seattle to take on Seattle University. Kick off will be at 6 PM CT on ESPN+.
