Lukas Martinen is in his eighth season assisting the men's soccer team in 2022.
Lindenwood compiled a record of 6-7-3 with the help of Martinen in 2021. Joshua Scholl earned second team All-GLVC honors while goalkeeper Zachary Martin was named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week one time.
The 2020 season was moved to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lindenwood concluded the season with a record of 3-11-0, as all contests were conference games. The highlight of the season was a 2-1 upset victory over No. 3 Maryville. Isaac Hoog scored both goals in the first half to earn GLVC Offensive Player fo the Week. The Lions earned one shutout on the year, which came against Rockhurst at home. Lindenwood played in many close games, as the Lions fell by one goal six different times.
In 2019, the team went 7-7-4, including a 6-5-4 record in GLVC play. Under the guidance of Martinen, Luke McBeth was named second-team All-GLVC, and Tim Licht was named third-team All-GLVC.
In 2018, Lindenwood compiled a 9-6-3 record, including a 6-3-2 mark at Hunter Stadium. The Lions finished the season with a 3-4-1 record in conference play. Lindenwood had five of its 18 matches reach overtime, finishing with a 2-0-3 record in those contests
In 2017, Lindenwood finished the season with a 10-7-0 record, including a 5-3-0 record against MIAA foes. The Lions registered seven shutouts on the season, including back-to-back shutout victories to end the year. Lindenwood had the second-best scoring defense in the MIAA, allowing just 1.11 goals per game. On the offensive side of the field, Lindenwood averaged 2.12 goals per game, the third-highest mark in the program's NCAA era.
For the second consecutive season, Martinen was part of the Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
From 2015-16, Lindenwood posted a 21-11-4 record. In 2016, Lindenwood won the MIAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Martinen was a part of the coaching staff that was named the 2016 Central Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
Martinen was a four-year letterwinner for the Lions from 2011-14. He helped Lindenwood win 53 games over the last two years, and win two MIAA regular season and two MIAA tournament championships. He was also a member of the 2013 squad which was ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II at the end of the regular season, and was the first Lindenwood program to earn a NCAA Division II Tournament bid.
Prior to coming to Lindenwood, Martinen, a native of Bredstedt, Germany, played one year of U17 and one year of U19 Regionalliga for SV Eichede, as well as one year of U19 Bundesliga for Holstein Kiel. His final stop before coming to the United States was one year with Flensburg 08.
Martinen earned a degree in accounting from Lindenwood in 2015, and is currently pursuing his master’s in accounting.
