Luke Young is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Lindenwood women’s volleyball team in 2012, and his sixth with the men’s program in 2013. Young assists with all areas of the program and serves as the women's recruiting coordinator.
In 2011-12, the Lady Lions finished the year 27-13 and captured the Transition Tournament Championship. Two-time NAIA All-American senior outside hitter Ellen Fandry was named tournament MVP. The Lion men had a successful 19-13 outing, finishing on a hot-streak defeating three future conference opponents, including Ball State University in three straight sets.
Under Young’s direction, the Lady Lions have compiled 126 wins and a .724 winning percentage, appeared in the NAIA National Tournament three times, and earned three conference championships. Young has coached three NAIA All-Americans, eight All-Conference Members, six NAIA Scholar-Athletes, and the 2012 Lindenwood University Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the Lady Lion program.
Since joining the coaching staff for the men, the Lions have compiled 117 wins and a .709 winning percentage, appeared in the NAIA National Invitational Tournament four times, and earned three conference championships. At the 2009 NAIA National Invitational Tournament, the Lions defeated California Baptist University in three straight sets in the national championship. Young has coached three NAIA All-Americans, nine All-Conference, one MAMVIC Player of the Year, and the 2009 Lindenwood University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Young has a strong record of coaching at the collegiate, high school, and club level over the past eleven years. Prior to joining Lindenwood, he served as an assistant coach at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Young also coached high school volleyball at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Sycamore, Illinois, and at Wentzville Holt High School. At Cornerstone, Young led the Royals to the ACS Illinois State Championships in 2006.
Young has also been active coaching club volleyball in the area with Team Momentum and Missouri Thunder volleyball clubs.
In addition to coaching club volleyball, Young spends most of his summer traveling the Midwest coaching and running camps for high school athletes. Young has worked camps for Washington University in St. Louis, Wichita State University, Iowa State University, University of Missouri, Northern Illinois University, Southwest Missouri University-West Plains, Molten Volleyball Camps, All-America Volleyball Camps, Lights Out Volleyball Camps and has served as a clinician for the USA Volleyball High Performance Tryouts.
Young received his bachelor of arts degree in visual communications and studio art from Graceland in 2004. While at Graceland, he was part of the men’s volleyball and track and field teams. Young earned his master’s of fine arts degree in studio art from Northern Illinois University in 2008.
Young also serves as an instructor in the Lindenwood Fine Arts Department, teaching studio art courses.
Young resides in St. Charles with his wife, Lisa, who is head of Access Services and Collection Development at the University’s Butler Library. They welcomed their first child, Elle Mae, in 2010.
