Don Loberg is in his 11th season as the head coach of the Lindenwood Lady Lions softball program in 2016. During Loberg’s tenure as head coach, the Lady Lions have an overall record of 253-256.
In 2015, the Lindenwood softball team finished the year with 17 victories, including 11 wins in the final 15 games of the season. Four players earned all-MIAA honors, including Kendall Ryndak who led the MIAA in strikeouts per innings. Off the field, 23 players earned MIAA Academic Honor Roll honors, two earned the MIAA Scholar-Athlete award, and four won the MIAA Excellence Award, the most among Lindenwood’s MIAA teams.
The 2014 season ended in dramatic fashion for Loberg's Lady Lions. Lindenwood needed to sweep Washburn on the final day of the regular season to reach the MIAA Tournament, and it need just that by scores of 7-2 and 6-4. It then took advantage of being in the tournament by winning two games and finishing fourth at the event.
Lindenwood finished the season with a 22-29 overall record and it tied for seventh in the MIAA with a 12-14 mark. Six Lady Lions made the all-MIAA teams, led by second-team selection Courtney Opich. Opich was also an Academic All-District selection. A total of 19 players were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, two players were MIAA Scholar-Athletes, and one received the MIAA Academic Excellence Award.
In 2013, Loberg led Lindenwood during its first season of play in the MIAA. The Lady Lions went 20-30 overall and 11-17 in conference action. Among the victories was a 4-3 win over the eventual NCAA Division II National Champions, Central Oklahoma. Loberg picked up his 200th career victory during the season with an 8-7 extra-innings victory over Truman State.
Two Lindenwood players, Alexandra Newcomb and Kendall Ryndak, were named honorable mention all-conference. Academically, two players received the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, one was a MIAA Scholar-Athlete, and 20 were listed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
In 2012, the Lady Lions compiled a record of 17-31 while playing mostly a NCAA Division II schedule.
Prior to 2012, Lindenwood competed as a member of the NAIA and the HAAC. The program reached the HAAC tournament four times under Loberg and NAIA postseason tournament once. Loberg had 28 NAIA Scholar-Athletes at Lindenwood.
In 2011, the Lions recorded an overall mark of 30-23 and a HAAC record of 15-5. The team also compiled a home record of 20-7. The program had five NAIA Scholar-Athletes, seven members were named to the All-HAAC team, and two were named to the All-Region team.

In 2010, Lindenwood compiled an overall record of 32-21 and a conference mark of 17-3. The Lady Lions were regular season conference co-champions and hosted four games in the HAAC tournament. Loberg's team compiled the highest GPA of any program at Lindenwood and was awarded the NAIA Scholar Team award. Six ladies were named to the NAIA Scholar team and nine were placed on the All-HAAC team.
In 2009, the Lady Lions compiled a record of 36-27 and 14-6 in HAAC conference play. The 36 wins were the most since Loberg has been head coach. In addition, the program placed five athletes on the all-conference team and two on the all-region team. Lindenwood finished third in conference play and advanced to the semifinals of the HAAC conference tournament.
In 2008, the program amassed a record of 35-16 to go along with a conference record of 14-6. The Lady Lions were selected to play in the NAIA regional tournament. Five athletes were selected for the all-conference team and one was the conference freshman of the year.
In 2007, the Lady Lions finished the season with a record of 16-28 and conference record of 6-14. The program had three athletes selected to the all-conference team.
In his inaugural season as head coach in 2006, the Lady Lions finished with a 28-16 record, including a stretch at one point of 11 undefeated games. The Lady Lions emerged to beat a number of nationally ranked teams.
Prior to coming to Lindenwood, Loberg was hired to start the softball program at Harris-Stowe State College. The team finished tied for third in the America Midwest Conference. He also had two NAIA Scholar Athletes and an AMC All-Conference and All-Region player on that team.
During the 2000-2004 seasons he was at McKendree University for four years as an assistant. The coaching staff was voted “Coaching Staff of the Year” in 2000 for the Midwest Region.
He started his college coaching career in 1996 at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, serving three years as the assistant and one year as head coach. At Florissant Valley he had four national scholar athletes.
Loberg was the head coach at Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, Mo. for two years, winning District Championships each year. He also coached at Lutheran North High School for 7 years.
Loberg served four years in the United States Marine Corps. In December 2004 he retired from the United States Department of Agriculture after 30 years of service.
He is married to MaryJo and has three children, Christina, Mandy and Don (DJ). He has one grandson (Hunter) and four granddaughters (Kylie, Grace, Olivia, and Vivian).
