JD Stephenson was named Director of Rugby Operations in August 2013 after serving as a graduate assistant and backs coach for the men’s rugby program since its inaugural season in the fall of 2011. In addition to his duties with the rugby program, Stephenson also works as the Assistant Director of Student Life Sports Facilities.
Stephenson began playing the sport at the age of four. He played first grade rugby for Easts (Eastern Suburbs) in Canberra, Australia, was involved with the Australian Capital Territory Brumbies Development Academy, and competed in the John I Dent Cup.
He traveled to the northern hemisphere and played in the Scottish Hydro Premiership semi-professional league in 2009 and for the Serie B National Championships in Italy in 2010. In 2012 and 2013 Stephenson spent time playing for the Belfast Harlequins in Northern Ireland and Dunedin Sharks in New Zealand.
Stephenson has also been invited as a lead coach at the USA Under 18's National Team winter camps in 2011 & 2012. In 2013, he was invited to the USA Under 20's National Team winter camp as they prepare for the IRB Junior World Trophy.
Stephenson attended the University of Canberra in 2010, where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in finance and accounting. He graduated from Lindenwood University in 2012 with a Master's of Business Administration. He is currently pursuing an MA in sports management at Lindenwood University.
