Dr. Kyle Sunderland begins his 5th year serving as the team’s sport scientist overseeing athlete monitoring and wellness. Dr. Sunderland is an associate professor of exercise science at Lindenwood and his research expertise lies in athlete workload management and injury risk reduction, which informs training strategies to optimize athlete performance and well-being.
Dr. Sunderland has been recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award in 2023 and 2024 by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. As a faculty mentor, he actively supports undergraduate students engaged in sport science research.
Originally from Twentynine Palms, California, Dr. Sunderland was an NCAA Division I track athlete at Fresno State University, competing in the 800m. He holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Oklahoma and earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Kinesiology from Fresno State.
