David Arns

David H. Arns is an associate professor of marketing in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. Professor Arns teaches and serves as faculty advisor for both undergraduate and graduate students. He also serves as the University’s Faculty Athletics Representative. Arns received the Distinguished Mentor Award in 2000-2001, and the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005-2006.

As the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), Arns reports directly to the President and represents the university and its faculty in relationships with the NCAA and the MIAA. The faculty's voice and influence regarding intercollegiate athletics are channeled primarily through the FAR. The FAR plays a key role in oversight of the athletics program, working to ensure the academic integrity of the athletics program and the welfare of student-athletes.

Prior to joining Lindenwood in 1999, Arns worked for nearly 30 years in the fields of journalism, sales, public relations, and marketing communications. He began his career as news editor and sportswriter for Suburban Journal Newspapers; director of sports information and manager of alumni relations for the University of Missouri-St. Louis; account supervisor for Aaron D. Cushman and Associates public relations; president of the public relations division of BHN Advertising; and head of his own marketing communications consulting agency.

Volunteer service includes member of the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; marketing and publicity chair for the St. Charles Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Commission; board president and business manager for the Lewis & Clark Fife and Drum Corps; member and board president of Youth In Need (a social service agency serving children age 10 to 18); and Missouri state media director for the Partnership for a Drug-Free America.

Arns earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a master of science degree in mass communication from SIU-Edwardsville. He is currently working on his doctorate in education with an emphasis in andragogy (adult learning) at Lindenwood, with an anticipated receipt of degree Fall 2014.
