Deja Vu, Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Robert Morris 2-1

New day, same result. For the third consecutive time and the second in as many nights, the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris, 2-1. The Lions defeated Robert Morris by the same score in last year's national championship game and last night to open the season. Overall, Lindenwood has won the last eight meetings between the two.

After playing to a scoreless tie in the first period, the Lions struck first in the second frame. Brett Lobreau scored her first goal in a Lion uniform at the 15:47 minute mark. With less than a minute remaining in the period, Robert Morris evened the score at one with an even strength goal.

The game remained tied until Lisa Moreau found Mandy Dion who netted the game winner with less than five minutes remaining in the contest.

Rebecca Bernet was the difference in goal tonight for the Lions. The senior goalie was impressive in the first period, preventing Robert Morris from taking an early lead. On the night, Bernet stopped 25 of 26 shots.

On Friday, Krystal Martin opened the scoring with an even strength goal assisted by Moreau at the 7:05 mark in the first period, and Janella Brodett scored the eventual game winner on a power play goal late in the frame. Shannon Murphy and Ashley Rebeck were credited with the assist.

Neither team scored again until late in the game when Robert Morris ended Bernet's bid for a shutout. The senior goalkeeper was sharp, stopping 22 of 23 shots to earn the win.

Lindenwood (2-0, 0-0) will open its home slate next weekend with a pair of games against Michigan State. The first game is scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
