Lady Lions Salvage Split at Lindenwood Classic

The No. 22 Lindenwood volleyball team swept Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.), 3-0, to salvage a 2-2 record at the Lindenwood Classic. The Lady Lions bounced back after being swept by Oklahoma City University earlier in the day. 

Lindenwood defeated Trevecca Nazarene by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-23.  The first game was close, with the largest lead for either team being three. Trailing 24-21, the Lady Lions converted five consecutive points to win the first set. Junior Krista Yoder accounted for four of the five points. Lindenwood used a 5-1 run midway through the second set to take the lead for good. Tied at 23 in the deciding third game, consecutive kills by Kelsey Kennedy and Ellen Fandry sealed the Trojans' fate. 

Victoria Krause and Fandry each finished with 12 kills to pace the Lady Lions. Patricia Erb recorded three service aces and Brittany Tate added two. Kelsey Biggs tallied 25 assists and Alyssa Showers had 23 digs. Yoder led the team up front with five blocks and Kennedy added four. 

Oklahoma City defeated Lindenwood by scores of 25-19, 25-12, 25-20, early Saturday morning. The Lady Lions never held a lead until taking a brief 13-12 advantage in the third game. The two teams traded points over the next few minutes, but a decisive 4-1 run for Oklahoma City put the Lions to sleep for good. Fandry netted nine kills and Biggs totaled 24 assists. Showers led the team defensively with 13 digs. 

On Friday, Lindenwood finished 1-1. The Lady Lions started the day defeating conference opponent, William Jewell, before losing to No. 4 Columbia College, 3-1, in the nightcap. 

Lindenwood defeated William Jewell by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 24-26, 25-13. The win keeps the Lions a top the HAAC standings with an undefeated record. Fandry led the Lions with 20 kills and Yoder netted 15. Biggs recorded 39 assists in the victory. Defensively, Showers had 21 digs and Kelsey Jo Vogler tallied three blocks. Showers also led the team with two service aces. 

Early on the Lady Lions looked poised to pull off the upset, but the Columbia Cougars were just too much, winning by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18. Fandry had a team high 11 kills and Biggs recorded 24 assists. Showers led the team with 14 digs and Biggs added 12. Yoder had six blocks up front and Vogler netted four. 

Next up for Lindenwood (23-8, 7-0) will be a road test against Avila on Tuesday, at 7:00 p.m.
