Sarah Oliphant netted a hat trick and the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team shutout the Michigan Wolverines, 6-0, early Sunday morning. The win improved the Lady Lions to 6-0 in the conference.
Oliphant got the Lady Lions on the board quickly, scoring less than four minutes into the game. Shea Crawford pushed the lead to two when she found the back of the net at the 13:55 mark in the first period. Oliphant added a second goal late in the first.
Oliphant completed the hat trick just three minutes into the second period, converting on the power play to put the Lady Lions up 4-0. Brett Lobreau tacked on another goal in the closing seconds of the frame.
Many Dion closed out the scoring with a power play goal in the third.
Lindenwood outshot the Wolverines 43-15. Rebecca Bernet recorded her third shutout of the year.
On Saturday, the Lady Lions defeated Michigan, 3-1.
After a slow first period, the two teams exchanged goals in the second. Lindenwood struck first when Ashley Rebeck found the back of the net at the 11:02 mark. The Wolverines tied the game with less than three minutes remaining in the frame.
Dion scored the eventual game winner on a breakaway shorthanded goal at the 13:31 mark in the third. Dion, the Lady Lions' leading goal scorer, added a second breakaway score minutes later to cap the scoring.
Alexa Bauer and Bernet combined to halt 15 shots to earn the victory in goal. Lindenwood outshot Michigan 39-17. Krystal Martin finished with a pair of assists.
Lindewood (8-0, 6-0) will return to action on November 13, against Bethel College at 5:00 p.m.
