Men's Wrestling Continues Early Season Success At Missouri Open

The Lindenwood men's wrestling team competed on Sunday at the Missouri Open. In the Open Division, two Lions placed and a third placed as an unattached wrestler. In the Freshman/Sophomore tournament, four Lions placed, including two champions.

Sam Schmitz and Daniel Chionuma both came in fourth in their respective weight classes in the Open Division. Schmitz lost in the quarterfinals of the 149 pound bracket but three straight matches to make the third-place match. Chionuma advanced to the semifinals at 184 pounds and then recorded a pin in wrestlebacks to advance to the third-place contest.

In the Freshman/Sophomore brackets, Chris Chionuma won the 165 pound title and Spenser Daniels won the 197 pound bracket. Chionuma cruised to his title, winning four matches, two by major decision and two by technical fall. Daniels also won four matches, including three by close decisions.

Also in the Freshman/Sophomore category, Willie Wiggins placed third at 285 pounds and Gabe Chandler was sixth at 133 pounds.

Rocky Cozart competed unattached at the event and placed sixth at 174 pounds in the Open Division.
