Lindenwood Sweeps Rival Robert Morris

A pair of power play goals in the second period propelled the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team to a 3-1 win over Robert Morris Sunday afternoon. The victory gave the Lady Lions a sweep of their arch rival.

Neither team scored in the opening period, but in the second Lindenwood would break through. Samantha Redick and Shea Crawford scored consecutive power play goals in a span of five minutes to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead.

Kyley Engstrom tacked on another goal late in the third period to push the lead to three. Robert Morris' only goal came in the closing minutes of the contest.

Rebecca Bernet posted 16 saves to earn the win in goal. The Lady Lions outshot the Eagles 41-17.

Lindenwood is unbeaten in its last 12 games against Robert Morris.

Three goals in the second period powered the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team to a win in the team's home opener Saturday night. The Lady Lions defeated the Eagles by a score of 5-2.

Robert Morris opened the scoring with an early power play goal, but Brett Lobreau evened the score moments later with a power play goal of her own. The score would remain 1-1 going into the second period.

In the middle frame, the Lady Lions broke the game open finding the back of the net three times. Shannon Murphy, Kelsey Talbot, and Deven Staiger all scored for Lindenwood to push the lead to 4-1.

Allysson Arcibal added another tally in the third to stretch the lead to four. The Eagles added a late goal to cap the scoring.

Lindenwood outshot Robert Morris 36-24, and Bernet, playing in her first game this season, posted 22 saves to earn the win in goal. Ashley Rebeck finished with three assists.

Lindenwood (6-1, 1-1) returns to action on Oct. 30th when its travels to Grand Valley State for a pair of conference games.
