The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team scored consecutive goals in the second period to slip past Penn State, 2-1, early Sunday morning and complete a sweep of the weekend series.
The Nittany Lions led 1-0 after the first period, but the Lady Lions tied it up in the second when
Kelsey Talbot scored her third goal in as many days . Seconds later,
Samantha Redick scored the eventual game winner.
Kayetoinette Stock recorded the win in goal, stopping five of six shots.
On Saturday, the Lady Lions found the back of the net more often defeating the Nittany Lions 6-1.
Lindenwood scored three times in the opening period.
Erica Wynn,
Lisa Moreau, and Talbot all scored in the frame. Moreau's tally came on the power play. Neither team scored in the second, and Penn State used an early third period power play goal to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Lady Lions would respond with three more scores of their own. Redick scored shortly after to push the lead to 4-1, and moments later,
Brett Lobreau scored on a breakaway for her second goal of the season. Redick added another tally in the closing seconds of the game.
Kayla Canning earned her first career win in goal, stopping seven of eight shots.
Shea Crawford logged a team-high two assists. The Lady Lions finished with 42 shots in the contest.
On Friday, Lindenwood picked up where it left off last March, shutting out Penn State 2-0 on the road Friday night. The Lady Lions posted their third straight shutout dating back to last season.
After a scoreless first period, Lindenwood seized control in the second frame. Talbot netted her first goal as a Lady Lion early in the period to put Lindenwood ahead 1-0. The score would remain that way late into the third when Lobreau found the back of the net to cap the scoring.
Stock earned her second career shutout in goal, and
Shannon Murphy finished with a pair of assists. The Lady Lions outshot Penn State 52-15.
Lindenwood (3-0) travels to Michigan State next weekend. The series will be a rematch of last year's ACHA National Championship game.
