The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team posted a 1-1 tie against Grand Valley State Sunday morning.
All the scoring happened in the first period.
Kelsey Talbot scored in the opening five minutes to give the Lady Lions an early 1-0 lead. With less than a minute remaining in the period, the Lakers scored on the power play to even the score at one.
Both team had scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the game, but the two defenses stood tall.
Rebecca Bernet recorded 19 saves, and
Ashley Rebeck and
Kendra Ganchar each had assist. The Lady Lions out shot the Lakers 37-20.
Lindenwood jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Grand Valley State on Saturday, and eventually won 4-2.
Erica Wynn scored midway through the first period to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead, and added another tally in the second to extend it to 2-0.
Grand Valley State quickly cut the lead to one with a goal in the opening seconds of the third period, but Lindenwood answered with consecutive scores to put the game away.
Nicole Konsdorf found the back of the net shortly after the Lakers scored, and with six minutes remaining,
Brett Lobreau lit the lamp to extend the lead to 4-1. Grand Valley State capped the scoring with a power play goal in the closing minutes.
Bernet earned the win in goal posting 15 saves. The Lady Lions outshot the Lakers 35-17.
Lindenwood (7-1-1, 2-1-1) hosts the University of Michigan next weekend for a two game series.
