The Lindenwood men's wrestling team competed in the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Saturday in Ames, Iowa. Three Lions competed in the third-place matches and one advanced to the fifth-place competition.
For the third straight tournament,
Chris Chionuma had the team's highest finish, placing third in the 174 pound division. He suffered his lone loss of the season in the semifinals by a 6-5 decision, but had three major decisions and one fall victories.
Lindenwood placed two wrestlers at 141 pounds where
Derrick Weller finished fourth and
Jacob Janes came in fifth. Weller won six matches , including one fall and one major decision, and Janes had three wins, including a pin in the fifth-place match.
The final wrestler to place was
Steven Butler who finished fourth at heavyweight. He lost his first match but bounced back for four straight wins to reach the third-place bout.
