Chris Chionuma Wins Another Tournament Title

Chris Chionuma won his second straight tournament title on Saturday as the Lions men's wrestling team competed at the Eastern Michigan Open.

Chionuma reached the finals of the 174 pound weight class after a fall, decision, and major decision victories. In the finals, he was matched up against Justin Zeerip, an unattached wrestler from the University of Michigan. The two went into overtime before Chionuma pulled out the win.

Also in the Open Division, Steven Butler placed sixth in the heavyweight division. He won three straight contests after losing his opening round match to place at the competition.

In the freshman/sophomore tournament, three Lindenwood wrestlers placed. Derrick Weller was third at 141 pounds, Kyle Webb was fifth at 133 pounds, and Jacob Janes was sixth at 141 pounds. Weller went 5-1 on the day. Webb picked up six victories, including on fall and four major decisions. Janes won five straight decision victories at one point in his bracket.
