Four Wrestlers Advance to Finals At Wisconsin Open; Two Win Championships

The Lindenwood wrestling team placed a wrestler in four of the ten championship bouts at the Wisconsin Open and came home from the event with two titles. In all, 10 grapplers placed for the Lions.

All four of the wrestlers in the final came within the first seven weight classes. Aedryan Cox and Chris Chionuma won their respective weight classes, and Jacob Janes and Derrick Weller were runner-ups.

Cox took the championship at 165 pounds. He won three matches, all by decisions of three points or less. In the finals, he took out Purdue's Patrick Kissel by a 6-5 score.

Chionuma won his third title of the season at 174 pounds. He dominated his class, winning two match by technical fall, one match by major decision, and pinning Wisconsin-Parkside's Matt Gille in the third period of the championship match.

Janes was second at 141 pounds and Weller was second at 149 pounds. Both wrestlers lost by two-point decisions.

Other placewinners include Nolan Johnson finishing third at 133 pounds, Daniel Breit coming in third at 149 pounds, Andy McArthur placing fourth at 125 pounds, Sean Williams coming in fourth at 133 pounds, and fifth-place showings by Santiago Martinez at 149 pounds and Darrell Risinger at 197 pounds.
