Men's Wrestling Ends 2009-10 Regular Season With A 37-6 Dual Victory

Video - Dual Highlights

The No. 4 Lindenwood men's wrestling team ended its regular season on Wednesday evening with a 37-6 win over Truman. The victory was the Lions' eighth straight in the series and was the largest margin of victory for Lindenwood over the Bulldogs.

Lindenwood won six of the eight matches in the dual and also won two forfeit victories. The dual was closer than the final team score indicated, though, with four matches being decided in the final period.

The Lions jumped out to an 18-3 lead after four matches after a forfeit win and first period pins by Wilson Metellus and Sam Schmitz. Truman's lone win in that span came at 133 pounds with a 10-3 decision victory by Ryan Banning. The Bulldogs also captured a victory at 157 pounds with Andy Bader's 7-4 decision win after he trailed 4-3 going into the final period.

That would be the final victory for Truman as Lindenwood took the remaining five matches, starting with a forfeit win at 165 pounds. At 174 pounds, Robbie Hicklin broke a 9-9 tie with 15 seconds remaining with a takedown, and finished with a 12-9 win with riding time. Drae Cox jumped out to an 11-3 lead after one period at 184 pounds and finished with a 15-4 major decision win. Spencer Daniels led by just one point going into the third period before he recorded two late takedowns in an eventual 11-6 decision win.

The top match came at heavyweight between Lindenwood's Tyler Porras and Truman's Loyde Braidlow. Braidlow led 6-2 before Porras scored a takedown as the buzzer sounded at the end of the second period. Porras then scored an escape and takedown in the third period, and Braidlow's escape sent the match into an extra period with the two wrestlers tied at seven. In sudden victory, Porras attacked early and got a takedown in 21 seconds.

With the win, Lindenwood ends its dual season with a 5-2 record, while Truman falls to 2-9 on the season.
