The Lindenwood baseball team took on Graceland University on Wednesday afternoon and the teams would split a pair of HAAC contests. Lindenwood won game one, 9-2 and the Yellowjackets scored four runs in the final inning to win, 7-6.
In game one the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning but the Yellowjackets cut into the lead by scoring single tallies in the fifth and the sixth. With the Lions leading by a single run in the final inning Lindenwood would erupt for six runs and the 9-2 win.
Randy Serrato started on the hill and went 5 2/3 surrendering six hits, two runs and struck out six. Justin Lamar and Carlos Pianetta each went 3-for-4 at the plate with a RBI.
The final game of the doubleheader started with Lindenwood taking a 3-0 lead going into the fourth inning. Graceland would cut into the lead with a run in the fourth and would tie the game in the fifth with two runs.
After the Yellowjackets tied the game, Lindenwood would answer with three runs in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead. The Lindenwood bullpen could not hold the lead as they would hit two hitters and the defense would commit a costly error to give Graceland the win.
Zach Malawey started for the Lions throwing 4 1/3 striking out three and only giving up three hits. Shelby Anderson was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and Lamar had another big game going 3-for-3.
With the split of the doubleheader the Lions record sits at 16-8 with conference mark of 1-3.
