An incoming Lindenwood football player,
Ben Britton, helped rescue a man from a burning car on Sunday evening.
The incident took place around 7:45 p.m. on Highway 100 in Franklin County, Missouri. A car driving westbound overturned and burst out in flames. Britton and his cousin, Jeff, came upon the accident and called 911. When the car caught fire, Britton, Jeff and two other people helped drag a man out of the car and into a ditch, where they remained until the fire department arrived at the scene.
“I still do not know what to think about it,” said Britton. “It was scary. The flames were five foot high and you could hear the tires popping. It is cool though that we were in the right place to be able to help somebody out.”
Britton, an offensive lineman, is from Sullivan, Mo. and attended Sullivan High School. He was a third-team all-state performer and all-district selection on offense. He earned first-team all-conference honors on both the offensive and defensive lines.
Britton will be joined at Lindenwood with Sullivan teammate Chris Frye. Behind Britton and the rest of the offensive line, Frye compiled 1,501 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.
“I am really excited to become a Lion,” said Britton. “It has been a dream of mine to play college football since I started playing the game.”
“Ben is a big and strong offensive lineman,” said Lindenwood head coach
Patrick Ross. “When we were recruiting him, we received great character reviews about him.”
