The Lindenwood volleyball team capped a strong performance at the
Olivet Nazarene Holiday Inn Express/Higher Grounds Classic with a pair of victories early today. The Lady Lions swept Aquinas, and then knocked off No. 16 Georgetown in four sets.
One day after nearly beating the tenth-ranked team in the country, Lindenwood finished the job against Georgetown, winning 25-21, 27-29, 25-23, 25-19. It marked the Lady Lions' second win over a ranked foe this season.
Kristy Dreisewerd logged a team-high 11 kills and
Krista Yoder was in double figures with 10.
Kelsey Biggs netted 22 assists and
Alexandria Malam had 21. Defensively, Lindenwood had three players in double figures in digs.
Alyssa Showers had 15,
Ellen Fandry totaled 14, and
Patricia Erb collected 11. Yoder led the team in blocks with six.
Lindenwood swept Aquinas 25-20, 25-18, 25-22. Yoder recorded nine kills, and
Katie Weber and Fandry each had seven. Fandry added two aces. Biggs and Malam both had 16 assists apiece.
Showers posted 11 digs and Erb tallied 10. Weber had a team-high four blocks in the win.
Lindenwood posted a 1-1 record on the opening day of the tournament.
The Lady Lions lost in a five-set thriller to No. 10 Taylor late Friday night 25-16, 19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11.
Kelsey Kennedy posted a career high 20 kills and Fandry collected 14. Yoder added 12 putaways and had a team-high three aces. Biggs netted 27 assists and Malam had 21.
Defensively, Showers totaled 30 digs and Fandry had 17 to notch a double-double. Weber recorded five blocks and Yoder had four.
The Lady Lions opened the tournament by sweeping
Freed-Hardeman 25-17, 25-19, 25-17.
Kennedy logged a team-high 11 kills, and Yoder was also in double-figures with 10. Biggs tallied 21 assists and Malam added 12 assists and four aces.
Showers recorded 11 digs, and Yoder, Weber, and Fandry each had three blocks apiece.
Lindenwood (12-7, 2-1) will travel to the Bellevue Bruin/Premiere Classic next week in Bellevue, Neb.
