The Lindenwood men's soccer team started its season with a thrilling 1-0 overtime win against visiting Lee University on Sunday night.
Both teams had chances in regulation but neither could dent the scoreboard. With time running down in the first overtime, Nenad Curic played a perfect pass to a streaking Hannes Backstrom who chipped the pass over a diving Benjamin Perez of Lee for the goal and the win.
Victor Francoz started in goal for the Lions and recorded his first shutout of the season and his sixth as a Lion.
Next up for the Lions is a huge early season game against the defending national champions Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
