Lions Beat No. 1 Team in the Country

The Lindenwood men's soccer team pulled a huge upset on Monday afternoon when the Lions beat the defending National Champions and No. 1 team in the country, Lindsey Wilson, by a score of 2-1.

The Lions got on the scoreboard first when Hannes Backstrom scored his second goal of the season after a perfect pass from Tiago Baptista Perei. Lindenwood would take the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

It didn't take the Blue Raiders long to knot up the score in the second half as Carnell Learmond tied the game just two minutes in.

Neither team could break the tie until the 74th minute when Simon Harrsen slipped a bad angle shot by the Lindsey Wilson goalie for the game-winner.

Sophomore Victor Francoz started in goal for the Lions and stopped all but one of Lindsey Wilson's shots. Francoz ended the game making eight saves.

With the win the Lions improve to 2-0 on the young season and will next travel to Park University Wednesday night.
