In their second meeting of the 2010-11 season, the No. 7 Lindenwood men's wrestling team fell to No. 8 McKendree on Wednesday night by a 22-17 score. Like the first meeting, which the Lions won 16-15, both teams won five bouts. This time, however, McKendree had two pins to help it capture the victory.
The match, which started at 157 pounds, began with three straight Lion victories which put the team up 11-0. McKendree responded by winning the three heaviest classes, including one by fall, which put the Bearcats up 13-11. Lindenwood went ahead one more time at 14-13, but another McKendree pin put it ahead for good at 19-14. The Lions still had a chance to win as they trailed just 19-17 going into the final match, but McKendree's nationally-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds won a narrow 8-6 decision to clinch the win for the Bearcats.
The top wrestler for Lindenwood was
Chris Chionuma who improved to 25-2 on the year with a technical victory at 174 pounds. The other winners were all by decision from
Andrew McArthur at 125 pounds,
Jacob Janes at 141 pounds,
Vince Hannon at 157 pounds, and Drae Cox at 165 pounds.
Lindenwood is off for 10 days until the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 29.
