The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team finished off yet another series sweep with a 4-0 win over Augsburg College on Sunday afternoon.
The first period was scoreless, mostly thanks to the big saves made by goalkeeper
Rebecca Bernet. In the second period, both teams were held scoreless again by the stellar goalkeeping.
The Lady Lions started the final period with a bang, scoring two goals in the first minute of play.
Krystal Martin began the rally with
Brett Lobreau following her lead. Four minutes later,
Ashley Rebeck added to the lead for Lindenwood. To wrap things up,
Kelsey Talbot put away a fourth goal.
Bernet stopped all 22 shots she faced between the pipes to record her second consecutive shutout and victory. The Lady Lions were able to put 29 shots on the opposing goal and converted one of five power-play chances.
On Saturday, Lindenwood beat Augsburg College by a score of 1-0 to win the first leg of the weekend series.
The first period was evenly played, but Augsburg outshot the Lions 10-8 and each team had one power-play opportunity
The second period was played similarly. Augsburg had two power plays compared to Lindenwood's one. Lindenwood still managed to outshoot their opponents 9-7 in the period. The game was scoreless through the first two periods.
Four minutes into the final period,
Shea Crawford netted a power play goal that ended up winning the game for the Lions. The goal is Crawford's sixth goal and 15th point this year.
Bernet saved 25 shots in goal for Lindenwood to record her fifth shutout and eleventh win of the season.
With the sweep, the Lady Lions move to 19-1-1 on the season and will return home next weekend against the University of Rhode Island.
