Box Score The Lindenwood football team fell short in its bid to upset another NCAA Division I opponent this season. The Lions fell to South Dakota, which is ranked No. 21 in the NCAA Division I FCS national rankings, on Saturday afternoon by a 30-0 score.
South Dakota was able to slow down Lindenwood's normally high-scoring offense. The Lions finished with just 147 total yards of offense. The Coyotes sacked
John Uribe eight times which caused Lindenwood to have negative rushing yards for the game.
Lindenwood's defense kept the game close for awhile. The Lions were winning the field position for the first couple of possessions until South Dakota got seven points after an eight-play drive that was sparked by a 37-yard pass on the first play. The Coyotes added two field goals on their next two possessions and they led 13-0 at halftime. Lindenwood punted on all six of their full drives in the half and only had 61 yards for the first two quarters.
South Dakota put the game away with 10 points in the third quarter. Down 23-0, Lindenwood had its best scoring chance as it went on a 17-play, 71-yard drive. The Lions converted three third-down opportunities and reached the South Dakota 15-yard line. On fourth-and-seven, Lindenwood elected to go for it and Uribe's pass to
Andrew Helmick came up one yard short. The Coyotes added one more insurance touchdown late in the game.
The Coyotes ended the game with 336 yards of total offense, with 151 rushing and 185 passing. South Dakota had 22 first downs, compared to 10 for the Lions.
Uribe finished the game 25-of-26 passing for 157 yards.
Alex Robinson led the team with seven receptions for 53 yards.
Therman McGowan was the leading rusher with 51 yards.
Defensively,
Chris Howard and
Brock Reed each had 10 tackles. Lindenwood's defense had five sacks and six tackles for loss, led by
Kellen Dreyer who had a sack and three tackles for loss.
